Spiced Apple Oats
Apple Topping
Ingredients
1 medium apple 🍏
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 1/2 tbsp light brown sugar
2 tsp dark brown sugar
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground clove
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Dash of salt
2 tsp lemon juice
Method
Wash and pat dry your apple, peel if desired. Carefully give them a dice—try for even sizes. This helps to insure an even cooking time.
In a pot over MED heat, add in all the ingredients except for the lemon juice. Stirring occasionally.
Cook at a soft boil, until apples are tender—this should take about 6-8mins.
Stir in the lemon juice and cook an additional 2-3mins.
Remove from heat and place in an airtight container, lid off to cool.
Using warm or hot water rinse the pot to prep for making the oats.
Oats
Ingredients
3/4 c milk (of choice)
3/4 c water
3/4 c whole rolled oats
1/2 tsp salt
1 whole cinnamon stick (optional)
1 tbsp unsalted butter
Method
In that same pot, over MED heat, bring the milk and water to a soft boil.
Pour in the salt, oats and cinnamon stick. Lower the heat to MED-LOW, cook for 10mins (uncovered) and stir occasionally. Or as the packaging instructions state.
Once creamy in texture, remove from heat.
Stir in your butter, until velvety in texture.
Split between two bowls, top with your warm apples.
Enjoy!
